Mississippi - The Clarion Ledger
Description
The newspaper has started in 1837 named as The Eastern Clarion. According to its website, “after the Civil War, it was moved to Jackson and merged with The Standard and soon became known as The Clarion. Combining with the State Ledger in 1888, it received the name of Daily Clarion-Ledger”. In 1920, Thomas and Robert Hederman bought The Clarion-Ledger. In 1954 they bought the Jackson Daily News and brought together the two newspapers. In 1982, the Ganett coorporation purchased the papers and combined their best features in one single newspaper, The Clarion-Ledger, since 1989. According to the paper, The Clarion-Ledger won the coveted Pulitzer Prize of 1983 “for a package of stories on Mississippi's education system”.
