Title

New York - The Poughkeepsie Journal

Description

Founded in 1785, The Poughkeepsie Journal is the oldest circulating newspaper in New York and the second oldest in the country. According to its about page, written by former editor Meg Downey, the Journal found its roots as a weekly paper but began daily publication in 1860, “inspired by demand for news about the Civil War.” In its nearly 230-year history, The Journal has reported on many notable stories – one of which was coverage of the New York Constitutional Convention, where the U.S. constitution was later ratified. Today, The Poughkeepsie Journal has a large presence in the Hudson Valley in both print and online medium. The current Journal covers everything from community events and business to crime and investigative reporting. The paper is owned by Gannett Company, a Virginia-based media marketer which gained ownership in 1977.
