Title

Iowa - The Hawkeye

Description

The Hawk-Eye was originated by the unification of two newspapers, The Hawk-Eye and Iowa Patriot, in 1939. At this time, it was called the Hawk Eye Gazette, and the name was a tribute to Chief Black Hawk, a friend of one of the owners of the newspaper. According to the newspaper website: “The name, Hawk-Eye Gazette, was shortened to The Hawk-Eye on May 7, 1960, when the first issue was printed in the new building -- a converted automobile dealership and bus garage. Approximately $650,000 was invested in the building and a new press.” In 1993, the paper was converted from an afternoon to a morning publication and in 1997 it started to run online.
