Title
Lousiana - The Times-Picayune
Description
According to the Historical New Orleans website, the Times-Picayune, began a “new era in Southern journalism”. It was sold for a picayune, “the Anglicized form of picaillon”. Picayune was the word used in New Orleans for their “smaller current coin, a piece of silver worth six and one-fourth cents”. Then, the name of the paper derived from its price. The today’s Times Picayune is a result of successive mergings since the Civil War, according to the website. According to The Advocate’s article from January 7th, 2015, the Times Picayune have a circulation of 97,249 on Wednesdays and Fridays and of 108,690 on Sundays.
