The actual Detroit Free Press is the first daily newspaper in Michigan. It was founded in 1831 as The Democratic Free Press and Michigan Intelligencer. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, it “was one of the first American newspapers to publish a Sunday edition, beginning in 1853”. The publication became renowned by its coverage of the American Civil War. Today, it is “one of the most widely circulated newspapers” in the US and it publishes daily issues.
