Title
West Virginia - The Wheeling Intelligencer
Description
The Wheeling Daily Intelligencer was originally founded by Eli B. Swearingen and Oliver Taylor as The Intelligencer in August of 1852. The name was shortened to The Daily Intelligencer from 1859-1865 and took the reputation of being a quality paper through stability and having broad appeal. In 1936, Herschel Coombs Ogden made significant changes to The Intelligencer when he merged the News with the Register while keeping The morning Intelligencer as a separate publication with its Republican policies and pro-business slant. As of 2013, The Wheeling Daily Intelligencer daily circulation reached 14,830.
