Title

New Jersey - New Jersey Today

Subject

New Jersey Today’s earliest ancestor dates back to the very first issue of the Bridge Town Museum & New Jersey Advocate, printed on July 13, 1822. According to its website, NJToday.net is what has resulted from centuries of new owners, re-naming and repurposing that was once originally the NJ Advocate. Though it has undergone many changes throughout its lifetime, the current website links its roots back to being the oldest weekly newspaper in New Jersey.

The online publication is community-based and is published every week on Fridays to subscribers in Middlesex and Union counties. The website was originally formed in 2010 “by combining the News Record, the Patriot and the Atom Tabloid & Citizen Gazette,” it’s about page reads. The News Record was founded in 1913, the Patriot in 1861 and Atom Tabloid & Citizen Gazette in 1963. Due to the ages of these publications, the conglomerate of New Jersey Today is considered to be the state’s oldest weekly publication in continuous circulation. The website offers its readers local news by county, opinion, health, money, schools, recreation & lifestyle, sports and offbeat news. One unique factor of this publication is that it allows for citizens to contribute to its material. Under the “citizen journalism” tab of the website, users can submit stories that they have written to be copy edited by their editors and later even be posted on the website.
