The Victoria Advocate had been previously named The Texan Advocate during its first year in 1846 and the subsequently named The Texian Advocate by its first publishers, Thomas Sterne and John David Logan.
After selling their publication, later editors and publishers had changed the name to The Victoria Advocate in 1859, which included The Daily Advocate as a daily edition. Both were published as a weekly and daily edition until 1943. The Advocate’s website was established in 1999.
As of 2010, The Victoria Advocate reached a daily average circulation of 76,388 papers, and 94,330 on Sunday.
