The first issue of The Deseret News was published in 1850 by its first editor, Willard Richards, and began as a bi-weekly publication. Its 1850 prospectus can be viewed here.
The publication is currently owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has an average daily circulation of 71,284
as of 2010, as well as a Sunday circulation of 183,049 in 2013. The publication has also been awarded a Pulitzer Prize for local reporting in 1962 on resourceful coverage of a murder and kidnapping at Dead Horse Point, Utah.
