Title

Vermont - The Rutland Herald

Description

The Rutland Herald is oldest newspaper in Vermont to have been published under the same name in the same city, as well as owned by seven families through its history. It is currently owned by the Mitchell family, who had bought the Herald from the Field family in 1947. This family owned business has had some notable success with paywall methods, serving as an example of how some of the oldest publications have adapted to survive throughout changing times.

The Herald is the only paper in Vermont to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for principled editorials by David Moats about debates over civil unions in 2000.
