According to the newspaper’s website, The Arizona Daily Star started its publication 1877 under the name The Daily Bulletin and it has been publishing newspapers everyday since June 26, 1879. When it began the newspaper was solely a mechanism for the Democratic beliefs of its owner, who was also a politician, L.C. Hughes. He would later become the governor of the Territory of Arizona.  In 1965, the Star was purchased by William A. Small, who also owned the Tucson Citizen. Then in 1940, both newspapers started sharing infrastructure, however, the Citizen stopped publishing in 2009.  According to the newspaper’s website, reporters Clark Hallas and Bob Lowe won a Pulitzer Prize in 1981 for their research of the University of Arizona athletic department and their football coach. As of 2005, The Arizona Daily Star is owned by Lee Enterprises.
