The Oregonian has been a news provider since 1850 and is ranked as one of the top 25 newspapers nationwide, according to The Oregonian Media Group’s website. From what began as a weekly Portland, Oregon publication, the Oregonian became a daily paper in 1937, Library of Congress records show. The Oregonian offers sections of breaking news, entertainment, business, sports, opinion, living, travel, homes & garden and photos. Aside from their stories, it also allows for users to create job postings, auto sales and other classified advertisements.
Since 1939, the publication has been awarded eight Pulitzer Prizes – three of which for its journalists’ editorial writing. The publication’s first win was penned by Oregonian journalist Ronald G. Callvert who provided commentary on the rights and liberty of the American citizen in his editorial published on Oct. 2, 1938. The Oregonian’s prize for breaking news was awarded in 2007 for their coverage of a family missing in the Oregon mountains. It’s most recent win, of 2014, was awarded to the entire editorial staff in honor of a commentary series on the rising costs of retirement pensions.
