Title

Pennsylvania - The Philadelphia Inquirer

Description

The Philadelphia Inquirer has its roots from John Dunlap’s first issue of the Pennsylvania Packet and Daily Advertiser in 1771, which was the nation’s first daily and direct ancestor of today’s publication. In the twentieth century, the Philadelphia Inquirer is the last of two major dailies in Philadelphia, along with the Philadelphia Daily News. Between the years 1975 and 1990, the publication had gone on to win more national journalism awards than any other newspaper in the country, counting in at 17 Pulitzer Prizes along with others: Roy W. Howard A ward, the Ernie Pyle Memorial A ward, the University of Missouri Medal, the Robert Kennedy Award for Photojournalism, the National Headliners Award, the Thomas L. Stokes Award, the George Polk Award, the Heywood Broun Award, the George Loeb Award and numerous awards in various categories from the Society of Professional Journalists. As of March 2013, the Philadelphia Inquirer reached an average circulation of 184,827 print papers and 67,958 digital issues.
